Beautiful large early 19th century French trumeau from a Paris apartment. Lovely original painted scene of the "affair of the diamond necklace". Queen Marie Antoinette stands in the garden of the Palace of Versailles while the Cardinal de Rohan and Queen's valet present her with the pearl necklace. This affair is considered one of the significant events that led the French populace's disillusionment with the monarchy and eventually led to the French revolution. The trumeau is a wonderful French blue color with original mercury cut-glass. 78" H x 3" D x 36" W $1600
